Credit: sajed.irIn the wake of U.S. Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta’s remarks that Israel could attack Iran as early as this spring, a conservative Iranian website with ties to Ayatollah Ali Khamenei published a statement outlining a legal justification for the annihilation of all Jews and the destruction of Israel, reported WND and the Daily Mail.

The author published the article on the site Alef, and wrote that “it is a jurisprudential justification to kill all the Jews and annihilate Israel, and in that, the Islamic government of Iran must take the helm.”

In addition, Khamenei gave a speech last Friday in which he said Iran will support anyone who will help wipe out the “cancerous tumor” that is Israel.

French Jewish organizations to honor Sarkozy

French President Nicolas Sarkozy will be the guest of honor at an annual dinner held by CRIG, a French-Jewish umbrella organization, reported the European Jewish Press. More than one thousand people are expected to attend the dinner, including politicians, ambassadors, Jewish community leaders, artists and others.

While the French president will speak at the dinner, other French parties, including those representing the extreme left and the extreme right, are not invited due to their anti-Israel and anti-Semitic views. Figures released last week showed that French anti-Semitic acts fell by 16.5 percent in 2011, but those acts that do still occur are quite violent, said CRIF President Richard Prasquier.

Prasquier is also expected to speak during the event, where he will likely address the Eurozone crisis, Iran, and the Arab Spring among other topics.

Assad won’t fall quickly if Syria continues to get Aid

Russia and China both vetoed a United Nations resolution calling for the resignation of Syrian President Bashar Assad, even though more than 5,000 people have been killed in the 10 months since clashes between the government and protesters began, reported Voice of America and the Chicago Tribune.

Furthermore, Russia has been supplying Syria with weapons for years, despite anger on the part of the United States and Israel. Israeli deputy foreign minister Danny Ayalon told Reuters last week that Assad is not really pressured into resigning because Syria continues, “to get material financial and military help from the Ayatollahs in Iran and Hezbollah.”

"Unfortunately he can stay for a long time, although he lost his legitimacy and sometimes at the end he will fall, but it may be a long and bloody process,” Ayalon also said.

JDC to help Jews in Eastern Europe during dangerous weather

Credit: EPA/ENNIO LEANZA .The American Joint Distribution Committee (JDC) has jumped into action, helping Jews in Eastern Europe and the former Soviet Union brace themselves for a wave of severe winter weather, according to a press release.

The JDC activated its emergency winter action plan to provide extra heating supplies and food, in addition to the heating fuel, blankets, and warm clothes it typically provides, to the Jewish elderly and needy children in the region.

The cold front has engulfed much of Europe, with temperatures reaching as low as minus 33 Fahrenheit in Ukraine. The severe weather has resulted in over 300 deaths across Europe and even north Africa, SkyNews reported.

"We've been able to mobilize quickly and respond to this latest deep freeze because emergency protocols are inherent to our historic winter relief program. For these Jews, many of whom have no one else to turn to, we are there to ensure an extra lifeline and much-needed sense of community at this time," said JDC CEO Steven Schwager.

Swedish law forces religious Jewish children to attend Swedish schools

Sweden passed a law that restricts homeschooling and could infringe on religious freedom in the country, Lubavitch Chabad reported. Orthodox Jewish children who were previously educated by an international, online school had to transfer to a Swedish school by February 1, or the parents would face a fine of 16000 crown ($2400).

“This is a stain on the reputation of a country that takes pride in equality as a fundamental value,” said Rabbi Alexander Namdar. Four of his children are affected by the new law. Guy Linderman, a Swedish Jew, said that the law was originally intended to help the children of immigrants, “many of whom were denied an education, and had grown up illiterate, incapable of signing their names.” But Linderman objects to the application of the law when it comes to religious families.

“We’re two parents fighting city hall for the right to give our children a Jewish education," said Namdar’s wife Leah. They don’t plan to compromise.

Hungarian right-wing party denies Holocaust, courts Iran

Marton Gyongyosi, the foreign affairs spokesman of Jobbik, an extremist, right-wing political party in Hungary, denied the holocaust in a press interview, reported the Jerusalem Post.

The spokesman for Jobbik questioned if more than 400,000 Hungarian Jews were really murdered or deported during the Holocaust, and said that it has become a political business to elevate the numbers. He also told a British newspaper that Israeli treatment of the Palestinians is a “Nazi system” and compared Israeli Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman to Joseph Goebbels. “The Jews don’t have the right to talk about what happened in the Second World War,” he said.

New York-based political commentator Ben Cohen responded to Gyongyosi’s comments, saying his “remarks neatly demonstrate the overlap of extreme-right and far-left anti-Semitism: paranoia about Jewish economic and political influence, downright lies about Jewish history and pathological loathing of Israel and Zionism.” The Jobbik party has also been working to establish a relationship with Iran, even hosting an Iranian delegation and the Iranian ambassador to Hungary.

Egyptian MP says Israel is responsible for soccer match riot

Click photo to download. Caption: Egyptian MP Mustafa Bakri has blamed Israel and the West for the soccer riots that broke out last week, which killed over 70 people and led to renewed protests against the government. Caption: EPA/STRINGER. Egyptian lawmaker Mustafa Bakri on Thursday said that Israel, the U.S. and Egypt’s former regime were responsible for the riot at a Port Said soccer match on Wednesday that left 74 people dead and more than 1,000 injured, Israel Hayom reported.

The riot prompted fans and politicians to turn against the ruling military council for failing to prevent the incident, the deadliest since former president Hosni Mubarak was ousted in February 2011.

A report by the Egyptian Sawt Al-Sha’b TV channel showed Bakri lashing out at the U.S., Israel and Egypt’s former regime, condemning all three.

Bakri claimed that Egypt is entering a stage of anarchy, and said, “What happened in Port Said is a continuation of what happened in Muhammad Mahmoud street, in Al-Qasr Al-Ayni street, across from the government, across from Maspero [the radio and TV building in Cairo] and in the soccer match against Tunisia. They are all connected. It is an attempt to bring this country down.”
