(JNS.org) On Israel's Independence Day, a high school student from the Ohr Haim Yeshiva in Toronto, Canada, won the annual Israeli government-sponsored International Youth Bible Contest.
Eitan Amos, 18, is the first Canadian to win the competition. He had lived in Karnei Shomron in Samaria until he was 11. Next year, he plans to attend a "hesder" program—combining yeshiva study with military service—in Israel. Second place in the contest went to Tefila Berenson of Tzvia Rehovot, and Itamar Kalifa of the Shaalvim Yeshiva won third place. Sixteen contestants made it to Tuesday's finals, held in Jerusalem.
The son of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Avner Netanyahu, won third place in the 2010 International Youth Bible Contest.
